This is a three movement work for violin and piano completed in May 2011. Each movement begins with an aural image first sketched in private improvisation and later set and developed through notation. The first movement paces; its title roughly translates to "peaceful stroll". Mechanical Groove is a fast ride through a spacious, stimulating environment. Lay Down is a journey like the two before it, but inward. This journey emerges outward in faster music, releases its pent-up promise in recollections of what has come before, and then finds itself coming back to the theme from the opening, braiding elements of all three movements into a soft and simple ending.

The first movement was started and completed in composition studies at Bennington College with Allen Shawn. I started writing the second movement soon after that continuing it as I travelled two continents over the winter of 2010-2011. I finished Mechanical Groove in Norfolk, VA and began the third there as well. I finished the third movement here at Bennington mid-May. Allen Shawn and Kaori Washiyama gave this reading which Peter Reale engineered.
